DePauw Earns Tie in Doubleheader Nightcap at Ninth-Ranked Randolph-Macon

Ashland, Va., - DePauw battled back from an early deficit in game two of its doubleheader at ninth-ranked Randolph-Macon and finished in a 6-6 tie after the game was called due to darkness. The Yellow Jackets blanked the Tigers, 4-0 in the opener. DePauw is now 7-9-1, while Randolph-Macon is 10-2-2.

In the opener, Rilee Baughan hit a solo homer with two outs in the first before Kayla Davis delivered a two-run single with the bases loaded in the third. The Yellow Jackets' final run came in the fifth when Blayne Talley scored on a wild pitch after leading off with a single, moving to second on a sacrifice bunt and to third on a grounder.

Six different Tigers collected one hit apiece, while Talley and Hannah Martin each had two of Randolph-Macon's eight hits.

Riley Depa dropped to 0-3 for the Tigers, while Gracie Ellis moved to 7-0 with the complete game shutout.

In the second game, the hosts again jumped out to an early lead with a three-run first. Davis singled home Amanda Lanyon and Reagan Hill brought home Jacy Ramos and Madison Drew Faries with a base hit.

The Tigers' scoring drought ended in the top of the fifth as Kiwi Moran's grounder brought home Hanna Coffel and Riley Heim's single scored Kelsey Bernhard. Goose Moore's triple scored Bernhard before Katie Mathies homered to left center to make it 5-3.

The Yellow Jackets countered in the bottom of the fifth as Baughan hammered a two-run homer to right to even the score at 5-5.

DePauw regained the lead in the sixth after Bernhard reached on an error that allowed Ella Kuenster to score.

Randolph-Macon's Sierra Livingston evened the score in the bottom of the seventh with a two-out single that scored Olivia Owens. A ground out ended the threat and the game was ended due to darkness.

Eight different DePauw players had one hit each, while Davis had three of the Yellow Jackets' 12 hits with Lanyon and Martin each totaling two.

The Tigers travel to fifth-ranked Christopher Newport tomorrow for a 12:30 p.m. doubleheader that was originally scheduled for Thursday.

I chose DePauw because I was able to continue my athletic career at a very competitive D3 school. The atmosphere and education at DePauw is also incredible and I wanted to be a part of it.

I chose DePauw because it stood out compared to all of the other campuses I went to. Between the people, the campus, the softball program and the community, it just felt like home. I knew after the first time I came to campus for a softball camp that DePauw was the one.
