Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw women's lacrosse team broke three single-game team records in its 26-0 victory over Spalding University. The Tigers improved to 5-0, while the Golden Eagles dropped to 2-5 for the season. DePauw's 5-0 record is the program's best start since the team's first season in 2013, when the Tigers went 4-1 after five games.
DePauw scored its first five goals in four minutes and totaled 12 in the first period of play. As the game continued, nine different Tigers scored, and 11 players dished out a team-high 18 assists. With 44 points from their 26 goals and 18 assists, DePauw broke the previous program single-game point record of 42 team points set in 2017.
Graesen Campbell paced the Tigers' scoring with five goals,
Marley Heitman and
Emily Napier added four, and
Bridget Driscoll and
Kate Leone had three.
Caleigh Claar,
Meredith Buti, and
Delana Underwood scored two goals apiece, while
Jess Jordan tacked on one more. Buti led the team with four assists, and
Maggie Little finished the evening with three. Driscoll collected eight of the 23 ground balls, tied the record for most draw controls in a game with 12, and caused six turnovers.
The Tigers secured 24 of the 29 draw controls throughout the evening's matchup, breaking the previous program record of 22 draw controls set in 2015. DePauw held possession of the ball for most of the game, resulting in a 46-4 shots advantage over the Golden Eagles.
Lydia Hollis had a quiet night thanks to the offensive dominance and the defense in the midfield, which caused 19 turnovers throughout the game. The Golden Eagles Isabella Mullins finished the evening with 15 saves.
DePauw's ability to collapse defensively in the midfield held Spalding to just 4-22 in clear attempts. However, the Tigers were perfect in clear attempts for the second time this season after going 7-7.
The DePauw Tigers are on the road for the next three games, with its first road game against Hope College on Saturday, March 23, at 1 p.m.
