Elizabethtown, Ky. - DePauw split its Saturday games at Transylvania's Pioneer Classic as the Tigers topped Anderson, 8-7, before falling to Dominican (Ill.), 5-4. The Tigers are now 5-6 on the season.
The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first against Anderson as
Kelsey Bernhard singled and scored on
Emily Timberman's homer to right center. The Ravens countered with one in the bottom of the first as Maddie Schoenradt singled and moved to second on Maddie Tuttle's sacrifice bunt. After Braelynn Hattendorf walked, Hope Smith delivered a double to right that scored Schoenradt.
DePauw pushed its lead to 3-1 in the second as
Hanna Coffel singled with one out before stealing second and moving to third on a throwing error on the play.
Alex Romero-Salas doubled to right center, scoring Coffel.
The Ravens took the lead in the third with a five-run uprising. Smith led off with a single and pinch-runner Katelynn Campbell moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on a grounder. Belle Blickenstaff reached on an error that allowed Campbell to score. Blickenstaff moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on a passed ball before Brook Reaves walked and stole second. Piper Baker walked to load the bases before Schoenradt and Tuttle both followed with two-run singles to give Anderson a 6-3 advantage.
Goose Moore led off the DePauw fourth with a single and
Macey Cox homered to right center to cut the lead to 6-5. Coffel walked, stole second and moved to third on
Riley Heim's sacrifice bunt.
Kiwi Moran's fielder's choice scored Coffel.
Libby Minobe ran for Moran and stole second before coming home on
Katie Mathies' single which gave DePauw a 7-6 lead.
Anderson evened the score in the fifth as Kylie Sloan singled home Schoenradt who had earlier singled.
Timberman led off the DePauw seventh with a single and pinch-runner
Madi Lockridge moved to third on
Ella Kuenster's sacrifice bunt. Pinch-hitter
Brooke Bruin grounded out which plated Lockridge with the game-wining run.
Timberman led DePauw with to of its eight hits, while Schoenradt had three of Anderson's 10 hits with Smith and Ashley Wheeler following with two apiece.
Romero-Salas improved to 4-2, after allowing one unearned run in four innings with six strikeouts. Molly Buck dropped to 1-2.
DePauw and Dominican fought through three scoreless innings before the Tigers scored first. Mathies tripled with one out and scored on Timberman's single.Â
Kayla Diaz Randall reached on an error with one out in the Dominican fifth and moved to second on Alyssa Craig's single. Donatela Sommesi tied the game with a single which scored Randall. Craig then came home after Sommesi stole second.
The Tigers scored three in the bottom of the sixth for a 4-2 lead as Kuenster doubled home Angelise Cruz and
Kelsey Bernhard and then scored when Heim reached on an error.
Randall led off the Dominican seventh with a walked and pinch-runner Gillian Czubernat scored on Craig's double. Later in the inning Emma Woodhouse drove in Sommesi and Kennedy Marvin with a single to make it 5-4.
Five different Tigers had one hit each, while Craig had three of Dominican's eight hits with Sommesi and Geneva Pollman adding two each.
Woodhouse improved to 6-0 and Kayla Faber-Cournane picked up her first save.
Josi Hair dropped to 1-1.
DePauw faces top-ranked Trine at 10 a.m. tomorrow and ninth-ranked Transylvania at 2:30 p.m.
