Tigers Split One-Run Games

Elizabethtown, Ky. - DePauw split its Saturday games at Transylvania's Pioneer Classic as the Tigers topped Anderson, 8-7, before falling to Dominican (Ill.), 5-4. The Tigers are now 5-6 on the season.

The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first against Anderson as Kelsey Bernhard singled and scored on Emily Timberman's homer to right center. The Ravens countered with one in the bottom of the first as Maddie Schoenradt singled and moved to second on Maddie Tuttle's sacrifice bunt. After Braelynn Hattendorf walked, Hope Smith delivered a double to right that scored Schoenradt.

DePauw pushed its lead to 3-1 in the second as Hanna Coffel singled with one out before stealing second and moving to third on a throwing error on the play. Alex Romero-Salas doubled to right center, scoring Coffel.

The Ravens took the lead in the third with a five-run uprising. Smith led off with a single and pinch-runner Katelynn Campbell moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on a grounder. Belle Blickenstaff reached on an error that allowed Campbell to score. Blickenstaff moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on a passed ball before Brook Reaves walked and stole second. Piper Baker walked to load the bases before Schoenradt and Tuttle both followed with two-run singles to give Anderson a 6-3 advantage.

Goose Moore led off the DePauw fourth with a single and Macey Cox homered to right center to cut the lead to 6-5. Coffel walked, stole second and moved to third on Riley Heim's sacrifice bunt. Kiwi Moran's fielder's choice scored Coffel. Libby Minobe ran for Moran and stole second before coming home on Katie Mathies' single which gave DePauw a 7-6 lead.

Anderson evened the score in the fifth as Kylie Sloan singled home Schoenradt who had earlier singled.

Timberman led off the DePauw seventh with a single and pinch-runner Madi Lockridge moved to third on Ella Kuenster's sacrifice bunt. Pinch-hitter Brooke Bruin grounded out which plated Lockridge with the game-wining run.

Timberman led DePauw with to of its eight hits, while Schoenradt had three of Anderson's 10 hits with Smith and Ashley Wheeler following with two apiece.

Romero-Salas improved to 4-2, after allowing one unearned run in four innings with six strikeouts. Molly Buck dropped to 1-2.

DePauw and Dominican fought through three scoreless innings before the Tigers scored first. Mathies tripled with one out and scored on Timberman's single.

I chose DePauw because I was able to continue my athletic career at a very competitive D3 school. The atmosphere and education at DePauw is also incredible and I wanted to be a part of it.

I chose DePauw because it stood out compared to all of the other campuses I went to. Between the people, the campus, the softball program and the community, it just felt like home. I knew after the first time I came to campus for a softball camp that DePauw was the one.
