Greencastle, Ind. - Ohio Wesleyan held DePauw to just four points over the final six minutes and took its first lead of the game with just 1:39 remaining while coming away with a 67-64 North Coast Athletic Conference win at DePauw. The Tigers dropped to 11-11 overall and 6-7 in the NCAC, while the Battling Bishops improved to 9-13 overall and 6-7 in conference play.
The Tigers used a 13-0 run to grab a 24-8 lead midway through the first half before Ohio Wesleyan closed the gap to seven just before halftime and DePauw led, 37-30, at the break.
DePauw briefly pushed the lead to double digits at 50-39 after
Camden Brown's 3-pointer with 13:31 left, but the Battling Bishops rattled off seven straight. The Tigers still had a 60-53 lead after
Brady Kunka's layup with 6:35 remaining, but Ohio Wesleyan fought back with six straight to close to within one point.
Reph Stevenson made a pair of free throws with 3:53 left to push the lead to 62-59 before Henry Hinkle knotted the contest at 62-62 with a 3-pointer.
Neither team scored until David Rice gave Ohio Wesleyan its first lead of the game with a second-chance bucket with 1:39 remaining.
The teams traded 3-point misses before DePauw missed another trey with 21 seconds left. Hinkle hit a pair of free throws with 14 seconds remaining and DePauw countered as
Sam Jacobs scored on a drive with seven seconds left. The Battling Bishops sealed the win when Hinkle made one of two free throws with four seconds left.
Jacobs paced DePauw with 16 points and three assists, while Stevenson notched a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Kyle Lillwitz added 10. Hinkle paced Ohio Wesleyan with 18 points and five assists with Rice scoring 13 and Landon Turnbull 11.
DePauw shot 38.3 percent from the field to Ohio Wesleyan's 39.7 percent and the Tigers held a 48-26 edge on the boards, but the guests led in second-chance points, 14-13. DePauw committed 16 turnovers with the Battling Bishops finishing with just four for a 20-2 advantage in points off turnovers.
The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 7, when they host Denison at 8 p.m.
