Danville, Ky. - DePauw opened the 2024 baseball season with a 13-3 win over Capital in seven innings before dropping a 6-3 game against host Centre. Capital moved to 0-2, while Centre is now 6-0.
In the Capital game, the Tigers grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first on
Danny Glimco's two-run double before the Comets evened the score in the bottom of the first.Â
Ty Sucher scored in the second when
Cameron Macon reached on an error to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead. DePauw scored four in the third as
Hunter Hrbek drove in Glimco with a sacrifice fly.
Carter Knoll and
Grady Johnson each scored on wild pitches beforeÂ
Drew Straub's grounder plated Sucher and gave the Tigers a 7-2 advantage.
Glimco crossed the plate in the fourth when Hrbek reached on an error.
Louis Florida's fifth-inning single brought home
Max Bond and Glimco drove in Macon and Florida with a double to center to make it 11-2.
DePauw wrapped up its scoring in the seventh as Florida singled home Straub and Glimco brought home Macon with a sacrifice fly.
Capital scored once in the seventh, but it wasn't enough as the game ended due to the 10-run rule.
Glimco had four of DePauw's 14 hits and drove in five runs. Florida added three hits with Macon and Sucher finishing with two each.Â
Three different Capital players had one hit apiece.
Griffin Albright pitched six innings of relief to collect the win while allowing just two hits and striking out six. Trevor Woodyard took the loss.Â
DePauw and Centre battle through four scoreless innings before DePauw grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fifth on Johnson's single which scored Knoll.
Centre, however, struck for four in the bottom of the fifth as Ayden Lohr singled home Conner Jackson before Chase Austin walked with the bases loaded which plated Jamie Laframboise, Ben Prather's double scored Josh Cunningham and Lohr.
Laframboise's bunt single in the sixth scored Karson Thompson before Laframboise came home on Cunningham's single to push the lead to 6-1.
The Tigers added lone runs in the eighth and ninth as .Macon tripled home Straub and Johnson brought home Glimco with a ground out.
Straub and Knoll each had two of DePauw's seven hits with Cunningham, Prather and Laframboise totaling two hits apiece.Â
Pearse Riendeau took the loss and Prather the win after striking out 10 Tigers.
DePauw and Centre play tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
