Oberlin, Ohio - Host Oberlin outscored DePauw 13-4 over the final 3:32 and knocked the Tigers out of first place in the North Coast Athletic Conference with a 55-50 win. The Tigers dropped to 17-7 overall and 10-3 in the NCAC, while the Yeowomen improved to 16-7 overall and 7-5 in conference play.
DePauw led by as many eight points in the second period, but Oberlin closed the gap to 22-21 at the half. A tight third quarter that included six lead changes ended with DePauw holding a 33-31 lead.
The lead went back-and-forth early in the fourth before DePauw went on at 7-2 run with
Lily Huntzinger converting a three-point play and knocking in four free throws to give the Tigers a 46-42 lead with 4:13 left.
Camille Zinaich hit a jumper and Alyson Jefferson made a pair of free throws to even the score at 46-46 with 2:56 remaining. Each team made two free throws before
Diana Burgher's second-chance bucket with 56 seconds left gave DePauw a 50-48 advantage. Jefferson then gave Oberlin the lead with a three-point play with 35 seconds remaining.
The Tigers couldn't convert on the offensive end and sent Zinaich to the line who made both to give the Yeowomen a 53-50 lead. Following a timeout the Tigers missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer, but were awarded possession with 1.8 seconds left after the ball went out of bounds off of an Oberlin player. DePauw, however, committed a turnover and Zinaich hit two more charity tosses for the final points.
Huntzinger paced DePauw with a career-high 15 including 13 in the fourth period.
Ava Hassel followed with 13, while Burgher matched a career high with 11 rebounds.
Zinaich led Oberlin with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Jefferson followed with 15.
DePauw shot 30.9 percent from the field to Oberlin's 34.5 percent. The Tigers held a 40-36 rebounding lead and committed 12 turnovers to the Yeowomen's nine.
The Tigers wrap up the NCAC regular season with a 1 p.m. game against Wooster on Saturday, Feb. 17.
