Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw trailed by as many as 15 early in the second half, but came back to force overtime on the way to an 82-79 North Coast Athletic Conference win over Kenyon. The Tigers improved to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the NCAC, while the Owls dropped to 1-8 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
DePauw led by as many as 10 midway through the first half, but Kenyon closed the half on a 15-2 run to take a 45-34 halftime lead.
The Owls scored the first four points of the second half to extend the lead to 49-34 before DePauw put together a 19-3 stretch to grab a 58-56 lead with 10:49 left in the second.
Kenyon led 72-69 after Charlie Heywood hit two free throws with 12 seconds left. The Owls fouled
Patrick Joyce with six seconds left and before the Tigers were able to fire a 3-pointer. Joyce hit the first free throw before
Reph Stevenson grabbed the missed second charity toss and made the put back to tie the score at 72-72. Kenyon's 3-pointer at the buzzer was off the mark and the teams headed to overtime.
The teams traded buckets to start the extra session, but went scoreless for more than two minutes before Stevenson nailed two free throws with 1:56 remaining. The Owls missed a 3-point attempt, but Joyce knocked in a trey with 1:09 lef to make it 79-74.
Connor Moss countered with a layup and Nick Nelson hit two free throws with 19 seconds remaining to close the gap to 79-78.
Sam Jacobs made a pair of free throws with 12 seconds left to push the lead to three. Nelson made the first of two free throws before Stevenson grabbed the rebound and was fouled. He hit the first of two free throws and Kenyon rebounded, but Nelson was called for an offensive rebound and the Tigers were able to run out the clock.
Stevenson led DePauw with a career-high 30 points along with 10 rebounds, while
Sam Jacobs followed with 19 and Joyce a career-high 10.Â
Gegen Bar-Cohen paced Kenyon with 29 points and nine rebounds, while Moss added 18. Nelson dished out seven assists.
The Tigers shot 48.1 percent from the floor to Kenyon's 42.1 percent. DePauw held a 34-33 rebounding edge and the Tigers committed 29 turnovers to the Owls' 18.
DePauw returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 15, with a 3:15 p.m. NCAC game at Wooster.
