Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw shot 50 percent from the field and never trailed on the way to an 87-57 win over Adrian in the opening game of the
Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament. The Tigers moved to 6-4, while the Bulldogs dropped to 3-8.
DePauw will face Milwaukee School of Engineering in tomorrow's 4 p.m. championship game after the Raiders topped Capital, 60-55, in overtime in the day's second contest. Adrian and Capital battle for third place tomorrow at 2 p.m.
The Tigers scored 12 straight over a four-minute stretch of the opening period and took a 23-10 advantage into the quarter break.
Ainsley Boras and
Ava Hassel scored buckets to start the second and extend the lead to 17. The Bulldogs, on the strength of 75 percen shooting in the period, closed the gap to seven late in the half, but Hassel's three-pointer and basket in the final 36 seconds of the period gave DePauw a 44-32 lead at the intermission.
DePauw shot over 56 percent in the third period and led by as many as 27 before taking a 68-43 advantage into the fourth. The Tigers led by as many as 32 in the final minute.
Hassel led DePauw with 21 points in just 17 minutes, while
Riley Mont and
Moira McGinley each had 11.
Olivia Hart grabbed six rebounds, while Mont and
Lyla Barr each dished out three assists with McGinley and
Asya Smith finishing with three steals apiece.
Hannah Lisch led Adrian with 19 points with Morgan Babb following with 11 and seven rebounds. Darby Lienerth handed out a team-high five assists.
The Tigers shot 50 percent from the floor to Adrian's 45.7 percent. DePauw outrebounded the Bulldogs, 35-27, and outscored the guests in the paint, 50-24.
In the second game, Milwaukee School of Engineering led by as many as 13 in the second period and still held a nine-point lead early in the fourth. The Comets scored eight straight to tie the contest at 46-46 with 1:50 left in regulation, but Adrian responded with five consecutive points aot grab a 51-46 lead with 22 seconds remaining.
Laney Murphy's 3-pointer and Bri O'Connor's bucket evened the count at 51-51 and forced overtime.
The teams were still tied at 55-55, but MSOE held the Comets scoreless over the last 2:40 to seal the win.
Mahima Chokshi led the Raiders with 26 point and Dani Mendez grabbed nine rebounds, while O'Connor had 23 points and Samaree Perkins hauled down 13 rebounds for Capital.
