Tigers Earn Weekend Split with Win over Pointers

Whitewater, Wis. - DePauw never trailed UW-Stevens Point in the UW-Whitewater Tipoff Tournament clash as the Tigers took a 69-47 victory over the Pointers. Each team moved to 1-1 on the season. The Tigers are ranked 22nd in the coaches' Division III poll and 24th by D3hoops.com.

DePauw scored nine straight in the first period to take an 18-5 lead on the way to an 18-10 lead at the quarter break. 

A 17-5 second-period run pushed DePauw's lead to 18 on two occasions before the Tigers headed to the intermission with a 37-24 lead.

The Tigers carried that momentum into the second half as they opened with another 9-0 run to stretched the lead to 46-24. The margin reached 25 twice in the period before DePauw took a 56-35 advantage into the final period. UW-Stevens Point got no closer than 18 the rest of the way.

Riley Mont led four DePauw double-figure scorers with 11 points, while Ava Hassel, Ainsley Boras and Olivia Hart each finished with 10. Boras added five rebounds and Mont dished out five assists.

Alexa Thomson led UW-Stevens Point with 10 points and shared the rebounding lead with Kelly McIntyre as each had six. Thompson, Maija Rice and Ava Loftus each handed out two assists.

DePauw shot 54.9 percent from the floor to the Pointers' 29.8 percent. The Pointers held a 35-34 rebounding edge and DePauw had just 10 turnovers to UW-Stevens Point's 14.

The Tigers return to action on Sunday, Nov. 17, with a 5 p.m. game at Transylvania.
