Tigers Drop Overtime Game at Scarlet Hawks

Chicago, Ill. - DePauw overcame a seven-point deficit midway through the second half, but couldn't convert on its final possession of regulation and Illinois Tech outscored the Tigers, 7-4, in overtime to take a 72-69 victory over the Tigers. The Tigers dropped to 2-4, while the Scarlet Hawks improved to 1-4.

Illinois Tech led by as many as seven in the first half and took a 35-31 advantage into the halftime. DePauw went scoreless for over six minutes of the second half as the Scarlet Hawks built a 54-47 lead. The Tigers responded with 14-4 run capped by two free throws from Eli Ellis to take a 61-58 lead with 4:02 remaining.

The Tigers still led, 65-63, after Brady Kunka knocked in two free throws with 2:45 left before Nicolas Ortiz knocked in a pair with 32 seconds remaining to even the count. Kyle Lillwitz's jumper with four seconds was off the mark, but the Tigers retained possession after the ball went out of bounds. Lillwitz's shot as the regulation buzzer sounded.hit the rim and fell off.

In the extra session, the Scarlet Hawks scored in the opening minute and never trailed. The Tigers missed both field goal attempts and committed five turnovers, while the hosts hit 3-of-6 from the floor. DePauw still had a chance to force overtime on its final possession, but a Scarlet Hawks steal ended the game.

 Reph Stevenson led four DePauw double-figure scorers with 15 points, while Lillwitz followed with 14, Caleb Washington with 12 and Ellis with a career-high 11. Stevenson and Andre Ozlowski each grabbed five rebounds, Lillwitz dished out three assists and Ellis recorded four steals.

DeAndre Vortes paced Illinois Tech with 23 points with Garrison Carter adding 15 and four steals and Dario Biaggi 10. Joshua Iguade grabbed eight rebounds and blocked four shots, while Ortiz handed out four assists. 

DePauw shot 37.3 percent from the floor, but hit 24-of-30 from the free throw line.The Scarlet Hawks shot 42.9 percent and outrebounded DePauw 32-26. The Tigers committed 21 turnovers to Illinois Tech's 19.

The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, December 4, with a 7 p.m. game against Wabash in Neal Fieldhouse.
