Greencastle, Ind. - Third-seed DePauw advanced to the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals following a 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-17) quarterfinal win over sixth-seed Oberlin.
DePauw improved to 17-11 and will face second-seed Ohio Wesleyan in a semifinal match on Friday, Nov. 15, at 6 p.m. Oberlin finished its season at 5-20.
In a tight first set that included six ties and three lead changes, Oberlin fought off a couple of set points before DePauw scored the final two on a Yeowomen service error and
Olivia Karwin's ace.
Oberlin opened the second set with a 5-0 run before DePauw clawed back and, with a pair of 5-0 stretches itself, grabbed a 17-10 lead. The Yeowomen were within four at 19-15, but the Tigers rattled off the final six points to take a 2-0 match lead.
Oberlin jumped out to an early lead in the third set before DePauw took the lead for good with a 4-0 stretch and gradually pulled away to take the match.
Belle Shelton led DePauw with nine kills, while Karwin totaled eight. Karwin and
Kendall Herrick each totaled 17 assists.
Riley Kamer, Herrick and Shelton finished with two aces each with
Grace Myers totaling 18 digs and
Kerry O'Connor four blocks.
Cami Sweet paced Oberlin with 12 kills and Jillian Jendsen totaled 15 assists. Jendsen had a team-high two aces with Julia Hall leading with 16 digs and three Yeowomen collecting one block apiece.
DePauw outhit Oberlin, .267-.050 and held a 38-30 edge in kills. The Tigers led in aces, 7-6, and in blocks, 7-2.
