Granville, Ohio - Second-seed Ohio Wesleyan got out to a big start against third-seed DePauw and moved on to the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament championship match following a 3-0 (25-3, 25-23, 25-19) semifinal win over the Tigers. DePauw finished its season with a 17-12 record, while the Battling Bishops improved to 15-12 and face Denison in tomorrow's title tilt.
Ohio Wesleyan outhit the Tigers, .800-(-.190) in the opening set and closed by scoring the final nine points. The Tigers led the second set by three before Ohio Wesleyan scored five straight and never relinquished the lead.
In the third set, DePauw scored the first two points before the Battling Bishops rattled off 12 straight to gain control. The Tigers closed to within two, but Ohio Wesleyan scored the final four for the win.
Ohio Wesleyan outhit the Tigers, .238-.011 and held a 40-22 edge in kills. The Battling Bishops also led in aces, 13-3.
Olivia Karwin and
Kenzie Myers each had five kills, while
Kendall Herrick led with 10 assists and two aces.
Grace Myers paced the team with 10 digs and
Kerry O'Connor totaled four blocks.
Natale Dieball led Ohio Wesleyan with 12 kills and six aces with Lily Bechina recording 30 assists. Avery Krause led with 12 digs and Claire Solberg totaled 10 blocks.
