Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Tigers Finish in a 2-2 Draw with the Little Giants at Home

Greencastle, Ind.- In a back-and-forth matchup between the DePauw men's soccer team and the Wabash College Little Giants, the two teams ended in a 2-2 draw. The Tigers moved to 6-3-3 for the season and 0-1-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference play, while the Little Giants moved to 1-2-2 overall and 0-0-1 in conference play.

The Tigers took just five minutes to go up 1-0 in the first half. Following a cleared ball, DePauw's Julian Bell placed a well-timed ball up the middle of the field right to the head of Braden Murphey. Murphey's contact with the ball had just enough momentum to push the ball past his last defender and the goalkeeper, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

Not backing down at the 12-minute mark, Wabash's Jose Escalante answered, tying the game at one apiece. The two teams traded shots and fouls for twenty minutes until, in the 32nd minute, DePauw sophomore forward Matthew Fogo was fouled inside the box. Fogo would then step up to take the penalty kick and score, putting the Tigers back on top. In the second half, the two teams continued to play physically and at a quick tempo. DePauw would hold onto its 2-1 lead until a late foul inside the box led to a penalty kick attempt for the Little Giants. Jesse Martinez stepped up to take the penalty shot and scored, tying the game for the second time.

As time wound down, the two teams fought for possession and position. With emotions high in the final 30 seconds of play, the Tigers had a promising look at goal off of a free kick. Despite a scramble in front of the Little Giants' goal, time was not in DePauw's favor, and the two teams ended their matchup in a draw.

Wabash held a 13-7 advantage in shot attempts, while DePauw held a 3-1 edge in corner kick attempts. In goal for DePauw, Sam Ortner tallied three big saves to keep the Tigers in the game, while the Little Giants' Fernando Ramos finished the evening with one.

The Tigers travel to Springfield, Ohio, on Tuesday, October 15, to take on the Wittenberg Tigers. The game will start at 7 p.m.
