Greencastle, Ind - The DePauw women's soccer team kicked off its North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) competition with a 1-0 victory over Ohio Wesleyan University. Today's shutout extends the Tigers' win streak to three, improving its overall record to 7-4-1 and NCAC record to 1-0. The Battling Bishops drop to 7-4 for the season and 0-1 in NCAC play.Â
Throughout the first half, the two teams traded possession and shots. Despite holding a 4-3 edge over the Tigers in shots and a 4-2 advantage in corner kick attempts, the Battling Bishops were shut down by DePauw's tenacious defense.
Following a scoreless first half, DePauw's pressure in the backfield led to a free-kick attempt just to the right of the penalty box. Peyton Howard stepped up to take the penalty kick, placed it just inside the goal area, and found the head of Macy Happe to put the Tigers up 1-0 and secure its first NCAC victory of the 2024 season.
In the second half, DePauw maintained its composure and stifled Ohio Wesleyan's offense, allowing them just two shots and one corner. The Tigers would finish the game outshooting their opponents 11-6. Â
Aubree Empie played the full 90 minutes in goal for DePauw, tallying two saves for the afternoon, while Natalie Ryan recorded four saves for Ohio Wesleyan.
The Tigers host Hiram College at Reavis Stadium next Saturday, October 12, for its second NCAC matchup. The match will begin at 2:30 p.m. EDT.
