Tigers Beat Terriers 4-0 at Home

Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw women's soccer team recorded its fourth win in a row and second consecutive conference shutout after beating Hiram College 4-0 at home. The Tigers improved their overall record to 8-4-1 and are now 2-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference play, while the Terriers dropped to 2-10 overall and 0-2 in NCAC play.

DePauw scored two goals each half to put away Hiram at home. The Tigers' first goal came in the 13th minute when Eva Lynch crossed a ball to Sydney Calisto, who took one touch to put DePauw up 1-0. At the 34-minute mark, Ashley Green found Liv Ehlers for goal number two.

DePauw ramped up its intensity in the second half, doubled its shot attempts, and tripled its corner kick opportunities. In the 53rd minute, Sophia Patrey's corner kick attempt floated to the back post and found the head of Macy Happe to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead. The final goal of the game for the Tigers came in the 80th minute when Ellie Mahan out-hustled her defender and chipped a ball just past the hands of the Terriers' goalkeeper.

The Tigers held a 16-0 edge in shots and a 13-0 advantage in corner kick attempts. Aubree Empie and Taylor Beard split time in goal for DePauw, while Hiram's Emma Deffenbaugh remained in goal for the entire game for the Terriers, finishing the afternoon with seven saves.

DePauw travels to Granville, Ohio, on Wednesday, October 16, to take on the Denison Big Red at 6 p.m.

I chose DePauw because of the amazing academics it will provide me for these next four years and the fantastic opportunities it will provide me in and out of the classroom. The team was also a huge factor in my decision to come to DePauw because they are so welcoming.

I chose DePauw for a number of different reasons. First, the University takes academics very seriously and wants their students to excel. I am looking to study in the field of chemistry and believe that DePauw's math and science programs are recognized for their high quality education. I also love the liberal arts style for a school, where I can explore other opportunities and expand my areas of interest. I was recruited by several Division I soccer programs, but decided to play at DePauw, because I really liked the coach and the team, and DePauw will provide me the opportunity to play soccer but also will allow me to enjoy the full college experience.
