Delaware, Ohio - In a match that featured 37 ties and 14 lead changes, Ohio Wesleyan came back for a 3-2 (25-22, 23-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-11) North Coast Athletic Conference win over DePauw. The Tigers dropped to 15-9 overall and 4-2 in the NCAC, while the Battling Bishops improved to 13-11 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
In the opening set, DePauw trailed 20-19 before Ohio Wesleyan scored the next four to extend the lead to 24-19. The Tigers fought off three set points before the Battling Bishops won on a DePauw service error.
After trailing 4-1 in the second set, DePauw scored nine straight to grab a 10-4 lead. The Tigers stretched it to 14-7 before the hosts rattled off 10 straight to go ahead 17-14. DePauw trailed 22-20, but closed the set with a 5-1 run with
Kaiden Harrington's kill evening the match at 1-1.
DePauw trailed 20-16 in the third before scoring four straight to even the score. The Tigers trailed 22-21, but finished the set with a 4-1 stretch with a Battling Bishops service error giving DePauw a 2-1 advantage.
The teams were tied 18-18 in the fourth before the Battling Bishops scored three straight. The Tigers closed the gap to 23-22, but Claire Solberg's two kills evened the match at 2-2.
A back-and-forth final set ensued and the teams were tied at 10-10 before Ohio Wesleyan scored five of the last six to take the win.
Belle Shelton and Harrington each had 13 kills for the Tigers with
Olivia Karwin totaling 20 assists and
Kendall Herrick 19. Karwin had a team-high two aces withÂ
Grace Myers totaling 30 digs.
Ashley Haas led the way with four blocks.
Mason Campbell paced Ohio Wesleyan with 13 kills with Lily Bechina assisting 46 times. Natalie Dieball and Grace Cummings each had three aces, while Avery Krause totaled 26 digs and Solberg five blocks.
Ohio Wesleyan outhit DePauw, .158-.141, and held a 60-53 edge in kills. The Battling Bishops held a 12-4 advantage in aces while both teams had 95 digs and eight blocks.
DePauw wraps up NCAC regular season play on Saturday, Nov. 2, with a 12 p.m. match at Kenyon.
