Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Tigers Beat Battling Bishops 3-1 on the Road

Delaware, Ohio - The DePauw field hockey team beat previously undefeated Ohio Wesleyan, 3-1 on the road. The Tigers moved to 10-6 for the season and improved their North Coast Athletic Conference record to 7-2. The Battling Bishops moved to 13-4 on the season and 7-1 in NCAC play.

Three different Tigers helped secure DePauw's 3-1 victory over OWU. The first goal of the game was scored by Tiala Ortega who gathered a pass by Lilly Harris to put th Tigers up 1-0 in the 23rd minute. Ohio Wesleyan would tie the game at one goal apiece just two minutes later following a penalty corner.

With the game knotted at one, DePauw capitalized on one of its three penalty corner attempts in the third quarter. Despite not scoring directly on the corner attempt, Ella Morris, found herself in the right spot at the right time, scoring what would be the game-winning shot into the Battling Bishops' cage, lifting the Tigers to a 2-1 lead.

DePauw would stifle the Battling Bishops offense across the third and fourth quarters, allowing just four shots and one penalty corner while putting up nine shots and seven penalty corners on the other end. The Tigers' final goal came in the 42nd minute of play when Alexandra May deflected Maggie Volpe's shot attempt into the back of Ohio Wesleyan's cage, giving DePauw a two-goal lead.

DePauw outshot Ohio Wesleyan 12-9 and held a 9-2 advantage in penalty corner attempts. In the cage for the Tigers, Scarlett Oaks tallied four saves, while the Battling Bishops split time between Meg McCarthy and Brynn Schlesinger. McCarthy recorded two saves.

Today's win over the Battling Bishops clinched the Tigers' third straight NCAC tournament appearance. DePauw ends its regular season play with a home NCAC match against the Transylvania University Pioneers on Saturday, November 2. Prior to the 3 p.m. game time, the Tigers will be celebrating their senior class.
