Greencastle, Ind.- After its tough 3-1 loss to Wittenberg on Saturday, the DePauw field hockey team bounced back and shutout Concordia Wisconsin 3-0. The Tigers improved to 9-6 for the season, while the Falcons dropped to 2-12.
DePauw found the back of Concordia Wisconsin's cage early when
Amy Apfelbaum slipped a pass to
Hailey Nowak to put the Tigers up 1-0 just two minutes into the first period. Despite putting up 12 shots in the first half, the Falcons managed to hold off the Tigers' offense and stay within one goal.
The Tigers managed to pull away when a scramble after a shot by Nowak landed in front of
Lilly Harris, who redirected the blocked shot back into the Falcon's cage, putting DePauw up 2-0 in the 38th minute. DePauw would eventually stretch its lead to three following a called-back penalty corner goal. Keeping their composure, the Tigers'
Ella Mickey found
Maggie Volpe for goal number three of the afternoon.
DePauw outshot Concordia Wisconsin 23-5, tallied ten penalty corners, and allowed just three on its defensive end. All three Tiger goalies found time in the cage, with
Scarlett Oaks recording the lone save of the day for DePauw. First-year Carlijn van der Bend played the full 60 minutes in the cage for the Falcons and recorded eight saves.
The Tigers travel to Delaware, Ohio, on Saturday, October 26, at 5 p.m. to take on the Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops.
