Cincinnati, Ohio - In a match that included 11 ties and five lead changes, Mount St. Joseph outlasted DePauw for a 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-21) win. DePauw dropped to 10-6, while Mount St. Joseph improved to 3-10.
DePauw trailed the Lions, 15-14, in the opening set before the hosts went on an 8-1 run to stretch the lead to 23-15. The Tigers scored the next four to close the gap to 23-19, but Mount St. Joseph won two of the final three points to take a 1-0 match lead.
In the second set, DePauw trailed 24-18, but fought off set point five times before finally dropping the set. The third set was another tight one as the Tigers battled back to trail 23-21 before the Lions scored the final two to claim the match win.
Mount St. Joseph outhit the Tigers .250-.150 and held a 43-33 edge in kills.
Kaiden Harrington and
Madeline Ozersky each had nine kills for the Tigers, while Emma Sicking paced the hosts with 13 and Hannah Graves followed with 12.
Olivia Karwin had 15 assists to lead DePauw with
Kendall Herrick following with 14. Jasmine Butler led Mount St. Joseph with 36 assists.
Ozersky had two of the Tigers' six aces, while three different Lions collected one ace apiece.
Grace Myers paced DePauw with 11 digs, while
Ashley Haas and Ozersky each had two blocks. Wilking led Mount St. Joseph with nine digs and Sydney Doty had three blocks.
DePauw returns to North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday, Oct. 5, when it hosts Wooster at 1 p.m.
