Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Tigers Tack on Late Goal to Tie the Yeowomen 1-1

Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw women's soccer team came from behind and finished in a 1-1 draw in its fourth North Coast Athletic Conference matchup against the Yeowomen of Oberlin College. The Tigers moved to 8-4-3 for the season and have a 2-0-2 record in NCAC play, while the Yeowomen moved to 6-5-2 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play.

Two bookend goals determined this afternoon's matchup between the DePauw Tigers and the Oberlin Yeowomen. The Yeowomen struck first in the third minute when Heather Benway broke away from the Tigers' backline and slipped a ball past Aubree Empie.

Oberlin would maintain its one-goal lead throughout the remainder of the first and most of the second half despite DePauw holding possession of the ball for most of the game. The Tigers would eventually catch a break in the 89th minute following a handball in the box. Stepping up to take the game-tying penalty kick was junior Macy Happe, who drilled the ball back into the net to knot the game up at one apiece.

With barely a minute left in regulation, the two teams fought for final possession of the ball and one last look at the goal, but time at that point wasn't in favor of either team. The Tigers finished the afternoon outshooting the Yeowomen 16-7 and held a 5-2 edge in corner kick attempts. In goal for DePauw, Empie finished with four goals, while Oberlin's Ali Grant recorded 11 saves, just shy of her career-high 12.

DePauw takes on Wittenberg University on Tuesday, October 22, at Reavis Stadium. The Battle of the Tigers will start at 7 p.m.

I chose DePauw for a number of different reasons. First, the University takes academics very seriously and wants their students to excel. I am looking to study in the field of chemistry and believe that DePauw's math and science programs are recognized for their high quality education. I also love the liberal arts style for a school, where I can explore other opportunities and expand my areas of interest. I was recruited by several Division I soccer programs, but decided to play at DePauw, because I really liked the coach and the team, and DePauw will provide me the opportunity to play soccer but also will allow me to enjoy the full college experience.

I chose DePauw because of the welcoming atmosphere, challenging academics, and the chance to play at a higher level in athletics.
