Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

DePauw Stuns Oberlin in 3-1 Home Victory

Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw men's soccer team came roaring back from behind to defeat Oberlin College 3-1 at home. The Tigers improved their season record to 8-3-3 and their North Coast Athletic Conference record to 2-1-1, while the Yeomen dropped to 4-9-1 for the season and 0-4-0 in conference play.

The Yeomen jumped onto the board first with an early goal in the first fifteen minutes of play by Xander Francoeur, who snuck a ball past the Tigers' backline to give Oberlin a 1-0 lead. Throughout the first half, the aggressive play of the Yeomen kept DePauw on its heels; however, in the 45th minute, Alek Habecker's corner kick attempt found the head of fellow first-year Harrison Engel to tie the game at one goal each.

The two teams would battle it out in the middle portion of the matchup, with DePauw setting the pace in the second half from the start. Finally, in the 82nd minute of play, the Tigers broke free of the Yeomen's backline, and Julian Bell slipped a pass to Sebastian Leon, who sent a rocket into the back of Oberlin's net to give DePauw a 2-1 lead.

One minute later, Cole Bubalo set teammate Braden Murphey up for the Tigers' third goal of the game, putting them up 3-1 with less than eight minutes left in regulation. Despite their efforts, the Yeomen ran out of gas and couldn't get past the DePauw midfield in the final minutes of play, resulting in a stunning 3-1 victory for the Tigers.

DePauw outshot Oberlin 12-4 and held an 8-1 edge over the Yeomen in corner kick attempts. In goal for the Tigers, Sam Ortner finished with two saves, and for Oberlin, Grayson Benson and Vince Fortuna split time in goal, with Benson tallying one save for the night.

The Tigers travel to Granville, Ohio, on Wednesday, October 23, to face the Denison Big Red at 7 p.m.
