Hiram, Ohio - DePauw improved to 12-6 overall and 2-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference following a 3-1 (25-23, 25-20, 16-25, 25-23) win at Hiram. The Terriers dropped to 7-11 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
In the opening set, the Tigers fell behind, 12-9, but slowly came back and took a 21-16 advantage after a 7-1 run. Hiram closed to within one on two occasions before
Belle Shelton's kill gave the Tigers the set win.
DePauw scored the first three points of the second set and never trailed on the way to winning the set and taking a 2-0 match lead. The Terriers came back in the third set and used a 10-2 stretch to take the lead for good and cut the Tigers' match lead to 2-1.
The fourth set was a tight one with eight ties and three lead changes. DePauw trailed, 8-6, before scoring five straight. Hiram used a 5-0 stretch to grab a 20-17 lead, but the Tigers scored four of the next five to even the count at 21-21. The Terriers took a 22-21 lead on Andrya Hanmore's kill before Shelton put DePauw back in front with a pair of kills. A Brooke Norris kill for Hiram evened the score at 23-23, but DePauw scored the final two to wrap up the win.
Shelton led DePauw with 14 kills with
Olivia Karwin adding 11. Karwin and
Kendall Herrick each had 25 assists and
Julia McWaters finished with two aces.
Kerry O'Connor paced the Tigers with three blocks with
Grace Myers finishing with 25 digs. Shelton followed with 22 digs and Karwin had 10 for a triple-double.
Cate Maguire led Hiram with 14 kills and Kelly Hofman had 36 assists. Madison Russell and Hoffman each had three aces with Hoffman totaling 16 digs. Samantha Telisman and Norris each had two blocks.
DePauw outhit Hiram, .190-.146 and held a 56-45 edge in kills. Hiram led in aces, 12-5, and DePauw in blocks, 6-3.
The Tigers travel to Cal Lutheran on Thursday, Oct. 17, for a 7 p.m. PDT match.
