Tigers Record Fifth Shutout in 6-0 Victory Over Allegheny

Story Links

Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw field hockey team tallied its fifth shutout after defeating Allegheny College 6-0 at home. With its fourth win in a row, the Tigers remain undefeated (5-0) in North Coast Athletic Conference play and move to 7-4 for the season, while the Gators dropped to 2-10 overall and 2-3 in NCAC play.

DePauw scored in every quarter except the third to put away Allegheny. It took just two minutes to get on the scoreboard, with Lilly Harris assisting Hailey Nowak's first goal of the game. Nowak would score again off a pass from Maggie Volpe in the 14th minute to put the Tigers up 2-0 heading into the second period.

Seven minutes into the second quarter, Volpe shot a rocket from the top of the circle to put DePauw up 3-0, and two minutes later, in the 25th minute, Nowak fed a ball to Ellie Lochhead from the backline for goal number four. Despite an onslaught of shot attempts and corners in the third quarter, Allegheny kept DePauw's scoring at bay.

The Tigers reset in the fourth quarter, and in the 47th minute, Nowak flew past the Gators' defensive line and found Frances Seitz, who deflected the ball into the back of Allegheny's cage, putting DePauw up 5-0. DePauw's final goal of the game came in the 59th minute when Amy Apfelbaum snuck a ball to Sophie Flyn for her first career goal as a Tiger.

DePauw outshot its opponents 27-7 and held a 12-7 edge in penalty corners. All three Tiger goalies found time in the cage, with Olivia Streifel recording a career-high three saves, Bella Lauber finished with two saves, and Scarlett Oaks tallied one for the afternoon. For Allegheny, Rowan O'Toole completed the afternoon with nine saves.

DePauw is back in action on Sunday, October 13, in Greencastle, Ind., where they will host Washington & Jefferson at 1 p.m. at Reavis Stadium.
