Tigers Soar Past Eagles 3-0 on Senior Day

Greencastle, Ind.-  The DePauw women's soccer team remains undefeated at home after beating Asbury University 3-0 on senior day. The Tigers improve to 7-2-2 for the season, while the Eagles dropped to 1-5-2 overall.

It took senior midfielder Annalise Grammel 25 seconds to score the Tigers' first goal of the afternoon. Grammel beat her defender down the left side and followed a deflected shot right into the back of the Eagles net.

DePauw's second goal of the afternoon came in the 48th minute when Grammel crossed a ball to the center of the goalie box, where fellow senior Whitney Wells was waiting, and headed it into the top left corner.

Up 2-0 with over 40 minutes left in recollection, the Tigers continued to put pressure on the Eagles' backline. DePauw would finally break through in the 62nd minute when Ashley Green powered through Asbury's defense and shot a rocket to put the Tigers up by three.

Senior goalkeeper Mallory Mundy played over half of the game in goal for the Tigers, and teammate Aubree Empie closed out the game, completing DePauw's shutout with one save. Asbury's Violette Moore finished the afternoon with three saves.

DePauw travels to Hiram, Ohio, on Saturday, October 7, to face Hiram College at 1 p.m.

I chose DePauw because the campus was beautiful and had the perfect combination of athletics and academics.

I chose DePauw for a number of different reasons. First, the University takes academics very seriously and wants their students to excel. I am looking to study in the field of chemistry and believe that DePauw's math and science programs are recognized for their high quality education. I also love the liberal arts style for a school, where I can explore other opportunities and expand my areas of interest. I was recruited by several Division I soccer programs, but decided to play at DePauw, because I really liked the coach and the team, and DePauw will provide me the opportunity to play soccer but also will allow me to enjoy the full college experience.

The esteemed education, great sports, and the way it made me feel like I belonged as soon as I set foot on campus the first time.
