Greencastle, Ind.-Â In its first home matchup of the 2023 season, the DePauw women's soccer team beat the visiting Saint Mary-of-the-Woods 1-0. The Tigers moved to 2-0, while the Pomeroys dropped to 1-3-1.
Following a scoreless first half and outshooting the Pomeroys 10-1, the Tigers came out of halftime determined to break open the game. In the 50th minute of play, DePauw would score following a well-placed corner attempt by Annalise Grammel, who found the right foot of fellow senior Whitney Wells to put the Tigers up 1-0.Â
With well over 40 minutes left in the second half, DePauw continued to push the ball into its attacking, forcing five of its ten total corners and tallying 13 more shots before the end of regulation. On the other end, the defense pushed play into the midfield, resulting in just two shots for the Pomeroys and one corner for the afternoon.
Kaylee Thayer finished the afternoon with eight saves in the goal for Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. For the Tigers, Mallory Mundy and Aubree Empie each took a half, with Mundy tallying one save for the day.
