Greencastle, Ind.-Â The DePauw field hockey team extended its win streak to five after blanking the Oberlin College Yeowomen 4-0 on senior day. The Tigers improve to 6-3 for the season and 3-0 in conference play, while the Yeowomen drop to 1-6 overall and 1-4 in NCAC play.
Fittingly, on senior day, senior forward Hailey Radford deflected a pass from Maggie Volpe for the Tigers' first goal of the game. DePauw would take a 2-0 lead as time expired after capitalizing on a scramble in front of a goal right after a penalty corner; this time, Hailey Nowak would find the back of the cage.
Nowak would tack on two more goals in the 33rd and 48th minute, recording the second hat trick of her career. Nowak's second goal occurred when Lilly Harris sent a ball into the circle, which connected with Nowak for goal number three, and the final goal for the Tigers came in the fourth quarter when Nowak launched a ball past all of Oberlin's defenders for a 4-0 lead.
DePauw had an edge on Oberlin in shots and penalty corners, outshooting its opponents 20-0 and earning 17 penalty corners while giving none on its defensive end.
Scarlett Oaks and Bella Lauber shared time in the cage for DePauw, while Oberlin's Janny McCormick spent three quarters in the cage and tallied six saves, and Leila Burki spent the last quarter in the cage for the Yeowoemn and finished the afternoon with one save.
The Tigers hit the road on Saturday, September 30, to face the Kenyon College Owls at 12 p.m.
