Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Tigers Prevail in 1-0 Victory over Colonels

Greencastle, Ind.- Earning its fourth shutout of the season, the DePauw men's soccer team beat the Centre College Colonels 1-0 at home. The Tigers improved to 4-2 for the season, while the Colonels dropped to 2-4.

After a scoreless first half, the two teams came out of halftime itching to get on the board. Finally, in the 59th minute, the Tigers found the back of Centre's net following a crisp cross by Ben Weidner to the sliding feet of Tye Williams to put DePauw up 1-0 with just over 30 minutes left in regulation.

Up 1-0 over the Colonels, the Tigers continued to force Centre to play on its heels with consistent pressure in its attacking third. Despite outshooting Centre 17-8 and putting nine shots on goal, the Tigers were held to just one goal for the afternoon.

The Colonels' Jacob Camacho and Brendan Egan spent time in goal; Camacho finished the afternoon with five saves, while teammate Egan tallied two big saves to keep the Tigers lead at one. Making his collegiate debut, DePauw first-year Sam Ortner recorded three saves and his first career shutout.

The Tigers are back on the road on Saturday, September 23, to play Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, at 1 p.m.

I chose DePauw for the mix of strong academics, including the Management Fellows Program, and the opportunity to play the two sports I love and have played most of my life. I also really like the campus and the people I have met along the way.
