Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Tigers Take Down Lynx in 3-2 Road Victory

St. Louis, Mo.- The DePauw women's soccer team outlasted Rhodes College after beating the Lynx 3-2 on the road. The Tigers improve to 5-1-1, and the Lynx drop to 3-1-1 for the season.

The Tigers' first goal of the afternoon came in the 9th minute when a well-timed run down the right sideline by Ellie Mahan led to a slip pass up the middle to an awaiting Sadie Gibson to put DePauw up 1-0. Fifty-nine seconds later, Gibson would find Sydney Calisto, who punched a goal into the bottom left corner of the Lynx's net.

Up 2-0, DePauw continued to stay on the attack, and in the 15th minute, Annalise Grammel scored from almost 25 yards, giving the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

The Lynx finally answered with its own goal in the 24th minute after Mary Gale Godwin snuck a low shot to the right corner of the Tigers net.

At the half with a 3-1 lead, the DePauw Tigers were surprised by Rhodes' energy, leading to a second Lynx goal in the 60th minute. Despite Rhodes' effort to knot the game at three, DePauw stayed calm under pressure and held onto its one-goal lead.

For the night, the Lynx outshot the Tigers 12-8 and held the edge in shots on goal, 9-6. Once again, DePauw was held to just two corners, while Rhodes earned five corner kicks in its attacking half. Though scoring opportunities skewed in favor of the Lynx, the Tigers scoring early in the first half proved to be enough to pull off the win.

In goal for DePauw, Aubree Empie recorded six saves, a new career-high, and for Rhodes' Olivia Barfield and Maggie Wakefield split time in goal, with Wakefield tallying three saves for the afternoon.

DePauw returns to Greencastle, Ind., on Wednesday, September 20, to host the Franklin College Grizzlies at 7 p.m. at Reavis Stadium.

DePauw felt like home. The feeling I got when I stepped onto campus was like nothing I had ever experienced when I visited other institutions. The people, as well as the endless opportunities, were unmatched.

I chose DePauw because the campus was beautiful and had the perfect combination of athletics and academics.

I chose DePauw for a number of different reasons. First, the University takes academics very seriously and wants their students to excel. I am looking to study in the field of chemistry and believe that DePauw's math and science programs are recognized for their high quality education. I also love the liberal arts style for a school, where I can explore other opportunities and expand my areas of interest. I was recruited by several Division I soccer programs, but decided to play at DePauw, because I really liked the coach and the team, and DePauw will provide me the opportunity to play soccer but also will allow me to enjoy the full college experience.
