St. Louis, Mo.-Â The DePauw women's soccer team couldn't find its footing in its 4-0 loss to No. 6 Washington University in St. Louis.
In the first half, the Tigers kept the Bears at bay until the 21st minute, when WashU's Gaelen Clayton gathered a loose ball in a scramble in front of DePauw's net to put the Bears up 1-0. WashU would tally its second goal off a penalty kick goal by Jessica Greven in the 44th minute.
Down 2-0 in the half, DePauw continued to pressure the Bear's defense. Unfortunately for the Tigers, in the 58th minute, Grace Ehlert of WashU jumped a pass by DePauw's backline and slipped the ball past Aubree Empie to extend the Bear's lead to three. The final goal for WashU came in the 75th minute by Alexandra Weinmeister.Â
The Bears outshot the Tigers 17-3 and had an edge over DePauw in corner kicks, earning five corners while giving up just two corners on its defensive end.
In goal for DePauw, Mallory Mundy, and Empie split time, with Empie recording a career-high five saves, while WashU's Sidney Conner tallied one.
DePauw moves to 4-1-1 overall and faces Rhodes College on Saturday, September 16, at 3 p.m. CDT.
