Sewanee, Tenn.- Earning its first victory of the 2023 season, the DePauw field hockey team came out on top in a nail-biting 2-1 double-overtime win. The Tigers improved to 1-2, while the Sewanee Tigers dropped to 0-3.

After two scoreless periods, in the 36th minute of play, junior
Amy Apfelbaum rebounded a saved shot to put the DePauw Tigers up 1-0. DePauw held its one-goal lead until the last 23 seconds of the fourth period when Sewanee's Bunny Rutledge scored off the rebound to force the two teams into overtime.

In overtime, the DePauw Tigers dominated in 7-vs-7 play, outshooting its opponents 6-0 and earning two penalty corners while giving up none on its defensive end. Seven minutes into the second overtime, Apfelbaum once again managed to gather a blocked shot to score the game-winning goal.Â

DePauw outshot Sewanee 24-10, including 18-4 on goal, and also held a 7-4 edge in penalty corners.

Scarlett Oaks finished with two saves for DePauw, while Claire Damare and Taylor Klesel split time in goal for the hosts.

DePauw returns to Greencastle, Ind., to face Earlham College, its first NCAC matchup of the season and the team's home opener, on Tuesday, September 12, at 7 p.m.
