Lisle, Ill. - DePauw battled back from deficits twice in its season-opening match against Lake Forest at Benedictine's Eagle Classic, but the Foresters won the fifth set for a 3-2 (25-23, 21-25, 25-15, 16-25, 15-13) win over the Tigers.
DePauw outhit Lake Forest, .215-.203 but the Foresters led in kills, 59-54. The Tigers held a 10-8 edge in service aces, but failed on nine service attempts to the Foresters' four.
Olivia Karwin paced DePauw with 16 kills and
Kaiden Harrington followed with 11 with Karwin hitting 406. Karwin also paced DePauw with 23 assists and four aces.
Lauren Ridgway had a team-best six block assists and
Grace Myers had 12 digs.
Grace Franz led Lake Forest with 17 kills and hit .407, while Lilly Robinson had a team-high 33 assists and four aces. Mia Atkins paced the Foresters with seven block assists and Karli Balzanto had 18 digs.
DePauw faces Benedictine at 10 a.m. CDT on Saturday before wrapping up tournament play with a Noon CDT match against Loras.
