DePauw Blanks Hiram as Part of Doubleheader Split

Hiram, Ohio - DePauw opened its North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader at Hiram with a 13-0 win before falling in the nightcap by a 5-3 score. The Tigers moved to 12-25 overall and finished NCAC play at 4-12, while the Terriers are now 15-25 overall and 2-14 in the conference.

In the opener, the Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the second on RBI singles by Cameron Allen and Ty Sucher before Sucher and Brennan Roach plated runs in the fourth with singles and Drew Straub and Danny Glimco each added sacrifice flies. Roach and Cameron Macon scored DePauw's fifth and sixth runs of the fourth inning when Carter Knoll reached on an error.

The Tigers added five more in the sixth as Straub doubled home Sucher before Glimco drew a bases loaded walk that scored Roach. Knoll's sacrifice fly brought home Straub. Aidan Howard singled home Glimco and Sucher's walk scored Danny Sheehan to make it 13-0.

Macon, Sheehan, Howard and Sucher each had two of DePauw's 11 hits, while C Marrs had two of Hiram's four hits.

Michael Vallone improved to 3-2 with a four-hit shutout that included seven strikeouts and just one walk. Vincent Pernotto dropped to 0-1 with the loss.

In the second game, Mike Midea put Hiram on the board first as he drew a bases loaded walk in the first inning., but Sucher gave the Tigers in the lead in the second inning with a two-run homer.

Michael Corsillo evened the score in the bottom of the second with a run-scoring single before DePauw regained the lead in the third as Hunter Hrbek led off with a single and moved to second on an error and to third on Macon's base hit. A failed pickoff attempt allowed Hrbek to score and give DePauw a 3-2 lead.

The Terriers tied the game in the third as Kobe Hunter reached on a fielder's choice that allowed  Hal Walker Jr. to score. The contest remained tied until the bottom of the eighth when Midea led off with a double and moved to third on an error before coming home on Hunter's double. After Hiram loaded the bases, Walker Jr waked to score Matthew Trimble to make it 5-3.

Four different Tigers collected one hit each as did seven Terriers.

Cameron Hawk dropped to 0-2, while Jack Conley improved to 3-4. 

The Tigers wrap up the 2023 season tomorrow with a Noon game at Case Western Reserve.
