Greencastle, Ind. - In the final games at Walker Field this season, DePauw dropped a North Coast Athletic Conference twinbill to visiting Wittenberg by scores of 12-0 and 8-2. The Tigers slipped to 11-24 overall and 3-11 in the NCAC, while Wittenberg improved to 28-8 overall and 12-2 in the conference.
In the opener, the teams battled through two scoreless innings before Wittenberg reached the board first as Conor O'Malley singled home James MacAuley. Parker Gryskevich's double in the fourth plated Ben Seibert and Matt Moore's fifth-inning sacrifice fly brought home Chase Whisner and made it 3-0.
Luke Thomas delivered an RBI single in the sixth that scored Gryskevich before O'Malley blasted a grand slam to push the lead to 8-0. The visiting Tigers finished the game in the eighth with four runs.
Five DePauw players collected one hit each, while Gryskevich paced Wittenberg with four of its 14 hits with O'Malley adding three and Thomas two.
Nate Floyd improved to 6-1, while
Jake Thometz dropped to 0-1.
In the nightcap, Wittenberg grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second when Ian Ash grounded into a double play with the bases loaded. DePauw took its first lead of the day in the bottom of the fourth as
Danny Glimco was hit by a pitch and moved to third on
Cameron Allen's double.
Danny Sheehan reached with a single that hit Allen at second for the inning's first out.
Kyle Boyer followed with a single that scored Glimco before
Brennan Roach delivered a single that plated Sheehan.
Wittenberg tied the game in the sixth on Seibert's infield single that scored O'Malley and then the guests broke the game open with four in the eighth and two more in the ninth.
Allen had three of DePauw's eight hits, while Sheehan added a pair. Seibert and Rocco Royer each totaled three of Wittenberg's nine hits.
Charlie Schafter improved to 1-1, while
Johnny Curry dropped to 0-2.
The Tigers travel to Hiram on Saturday, May 6, for a Noon NCAC doubleheader.
