Dominant Second Half Propels Tigers to a 14-8 Victory

Gambier, Ohio- In a story of two halves the DePauw University women's lacrosse team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championships after beating Lake Forest College 14-8. The Tigers broke the program record for wins in a season as they improved to 12-5 and they face host Kenyon for a third time this season in tomorrow's 1 p.m. second-round game.

DePauw struck first with two unassisted goals by Graesen Campbell just 40 seconds apart. The Tigers' third goal came in the seventh minute when Bria Randolph found Emily Napier to go up 3-0. At the end of the first period the Foresters' Emma Tryder found the back of DePauw's net to cut the Tigers' lead to two heading into the second period. 

Lake Forest opened the second period with a quick goal by Jenna Doctor to get within one of DePauw and with six minutes left in the half managed to take a 4-3 lead over the Tigers. DePauw's Napier took back the lead for the Tigers following back-to-back goals for a 5-4 advantage, however, the Foresters quickly answered with two more goals of their own to go up 6-5 heading into halftime.

It took the Tigers just two minutes into the third period to tie the game at six, and throughout the third period outscored the Foresters 5-1. In the fourth period DePauw continued to control the pace of the game, scoring four more goals, while giving up just one goal on the other end, to its first every NCAA Championship game with a 14-8 victory.

Napier and Campbell led the team with three goals apiece, Randolph, Marley Heitman, and Bridget Driscoll each finished the afternoon with two, and Abby Keane and Olivia Sanchez recorded a goal. Randolph tallied three assists and teammate Campbell assisted two goals across the afternoon. Keane, Heitman, Driscoll, and Sanchez each contributed two caused turnovers, and Caleigh Claar led the team with five ground balls.

In goal, Lydia Hollis finished with five saves and improved to 12-5 for the season. The Foresters' Calliope Saban recorded 13 saves and dropped to 6-5 for the season. Her teammate Cecilia Adams finished with four saves for the afternoon.

DePauw held a 39-26 advantage in shots, with the Tigers holding Lake Forest to just 11 shots in the second half. The Tigers and the Foresters committed 17 and 25 turnovers, respectively, with DePauw forcing 12 of the Foresters' 25. DePauw held a 16-10 edge in draw control wins, with Driscoll collecting 7 of the 16 for DePauw, Lake Forest's Ali Graham collected three draw control wins for the Foresters. DePauw led in ground balls, 27-13 and went 14-19 in clear attempts, while Lake Forest finished the evening 11-26 in clear attempts.
