Gambier, Ohio - Coming off Saturday's 14-8 victory over Lake Forest, DePauw's record-setting season ended on Sunday in the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship, with an 18-9 loss to 21st-ranked Kenyon College. The Tigers completed the 2023 season with a program-best 12-6 record, while the Owls improved to 18-1 and face Pomona-Pitzer in the regional round.
In its third matchup against Kenyon in three weeks, the Tigers got on the board first off a free position goal by
Abby Keane. DePauw's lead was quickly erased following back-to-back goals by the Owls for a 2-1 lead over the Tigers with 11:05 left in the first period. Keane scored her second goal out of five to knot the game at 2-2 less than a minute later. However, Kenyon tacked on three more goals across the last nine minutes of play to go up 5-2. Unwilling to back down, DePauw managed to keep possession in the last 45 seconds of play and score off a scramble in front of the net by
Bria Randolph off a crisp pass by
Bridget Driscoll to get within two heading into the second period.
At the start of the second period, Kenyon's Kate Lengel scored within 48 seconds of the won draw control to put the Owls up 6-3. That lead would be cut to one after Keane recorded goals three and four with six minutes left in the half. DePauw held Kenyon for over three minutes following Keane's goals before the Owls extended its lead back to three. Down 8-5 with less than a minute left in the half, DePauw capitalized in the final seconds of the second quarter, with
Marley Heitman scoring off a free-position shot to end the half to bring DePauw within two.
Despite a close first half, a dominant third period by the Owls put Kenyon up by 12-6 heading into the fourth period. Randolph scored her second of the afternoon at the start of the fourth period during a woman-down situation with 13:40 left in the final period.
Graesen Campbell scored the Tigers' eighth goal a minute later, getting DePauw back within four. Unfortunately for DePauw, Kenyon strung four goals in two minutes to balloon its lead to eight with nine minutes left in regulation. Keane would tack on her fifth and final goal in the seventh minute of play, bringing the Tigers within seven. Though DePauw held Kenyon scoreless for five minutes in the final eight minutes of play, two late goals by the Owls led to an 18-9 win over the Tigers.
In goal,
Lydia Hollis finished with nine saves and dropped to 12-6 for the season. The Owls' Nola Garand recorded three saves and picked up her 17th win of the season, while teammate Delaney Gallager finished with five saves.
Kenyon held a 35-26 advantage in shots, with the Tigers holding the Owls to just 15 shots in the first half. DePauw and Kenyon committed 15 and 14 turnovers, respectively, with DePauw forcing five of the Owls' 14. Kenyon held an 18-10 edge in draw controls, with Driscoll collecting four of the 10 for DePauw, and the Owls' Julia Losey collected six draw controls. DePauw was just two behind Kenyon in ground balls, 19-17, and went 12-16 in clear attempts, while Kenyon finished the evening 15-19 in clear attempts.

- Driscoll eclipsed her own single-season ground ball record of 41 by 30, bringing her season total to 71.
