Greencastle, Ind.- In its second to last regular season NCAC matchup, the DePauw women's lacrosse team beat the Wittenberg University Tigers 25-4 in the Battle of Tigers. DePauw improves to 11-3 for the season and 3-2 in conference play, while Wittenberg falls to 2-14 and 0-6 in NCAC play.
DePauw opened up its matchup against Wittenberg with six unanswered goals across the first 10 minutes of play. With 5:25 left in the period, Wittenberg's Jessica Flick put the Wittenberg Tigers on the board, and less than a minute later, teammate Grace Hehman scored Wittenberg's second goal of the night, cutting the DePauw Tigers to four. Despite giving up back-to-back goals, the DePauw Tigers recovered quickly and tacked on three more goals before the start of the second to go up 9-2.
Across the second and third periods, the DePauw Tigers outscored Wittenberg 14-0, giving up just two shots while putting up 20 shots on the attack. Down 23-2 at the start of the fourth period, Wittenberg's Flick and Hehman scored two more goals for the Wittenberg Tigers before DePauw scored two late goals for a final score of 25-4.
Bria Randolph and
Graesen Campbell led the team with five goals apiece,
Marley Heitman finished the night with four,
Abby Keane tacked on three goals, while
Caleigh Claar, Bridget Driscoll, and
Emily Napier each had two.
Maggie Little and
Olivia Sanchez rounded out the DePauw scoring with a goal apiece. Randolph and Driscoll finished the night with four assists, while on the defensive side,
Quinn Tegenkamp led the team with four caused turnovers. DePauw recorded 26 total caused turnovers, breaking the previous record of 23, set on April 6, 2022, against Earlham.
In goal,
Lydia Hollis finished the night with four saves and improved to 11-3 for the season. Wittenberg's Sidney Sheridan totaled seven saves and dropped to 1-8.
DePauw held a 42-8 advantage in shots, with the DePauw Tigers and Wittenberg Tigers committing 17 and 27 turnovers, respectively. DePauw held a 21-9 edge in draw control wins, with Driscoll collecting 12 of the 21 for DePauw, Wittenberg's Zoe Chirumbolo, Katie Wadds, and Haley Pitman each had three of the 13 draw control wins for Wittenberg. DePauw led in ground balls, 26-15, and went 12-15 in clear attempts, while Wittenberg finished the evening 9-24 in clear attempts.
The Tigers host the Kenyon College Owls in its final regular season game on Saturday, April 29, at 2:30 p.m.
