Wittenberg Rallies with Three Late Goals to Top Tigers

Springfield, Ohio - DePauw's Henry White scored with 6:30 remaining in the fourth period to give DePauw a 7-6 lead, but host Wittenberg scored three times in a 2:38 stretch to take a 9-7 North Coast Athletic Conference win. DePauw dropped to 7-8 overall and 2-5 in the NCAC, while Wittenberg improved to 7-7 overall an4-1d 4-3 in conference play.

The teams exchanged goals over the first two minutes before Wittenberg scored three straight for a 4-1 lead with 11:48 remaining in the second period. Beckett Tasker, Jack Flynn and Connor Gibson scored consecutive goals for DePauw to even the score at 4-4 before Wittenberg grabbed a 5-4 halftime lead after scoring with just under five minutes left in the half.

White evened the scored with 12:29 left in the third before Wittenberg's Colten Simkins answered just seven seconds later to put the hosts back in front. 

Gibson's goal with 11 seconds left in the third again evened the score at 6-6 before White gave DePauw its first lead of the game with 6:30 remaining in the contest. Wittenberg's Dillon McKeigue tied the contest with 5:29 left before Nathan Brown's man-up goal with 3:56 remaining gave Wittenberg the lead for good. Kody Gould sealed the win for the hosts with a score at the 2:51 mark.

White led the Tigers with three goals and Gibson added two. Gould, McKeigue and Nicholas Langenderfer each had two for Wittenberg.

Anthony Reinhardt had 16 saves in goal for DePauw, while Will Westermeyer stopped nine shots for Wittenberg.

Simkins won 14 of the 20 faceoffs and totaled nine ground balls, while Matthew Roman won five faceoffs for DePauw and Jack Kneisley one. Kneisley paced the Tigers with five ground balls.

Wittenberg held a 43-25 edge in shots as well as 28-25 in ground balls. DePauw committed 20 turnovers to Wittenberg's 18.

DePauw wraps up the season on Saturday, April 29, with a Noon NCAC home game against Ohio Wesleyan.
