Greencastle, Ind.- DePauw tacks on two more wins after sweeping the Wittenberg University Tigers in its home opener doubleheader by scores of 5-4, 11-3 (5 Inn.). The Tigers improved to 12-17 overall and 5-1 in the NCAC, while Wittenberg dropped to 10-23 for the season and 7-5 in league play.

In game one of the series, the DePauw Tigers got on the board first after
Katie Mathies had a sacrifice fly out to left field to bring in
Goose Moore and advance
Abby Pyburn to third.

Callie Rheinheimer doubled into right field in the second inning, giving
Kelsey Bernhard time to sneak into home and Rheinheimer to steal third. With no outs and a runner on third,
Alyssa Anderson hit a sacrifice fly to left field to punch in another run for DePauw.

Wittenberg clawed it's way back into the game, cutting the lead to two in the top of the fourth when Shannon Flaherty flied out to left field, bringing in Hanna Ecker. Neither team would score again until the sixth inning.

Wittenberg's Flaherty recorded her second RBI of the day after singling up center field to bring in teammate Diana Quevedo to cut the lead to one. DePauw would answer with two runs of its own, the first off an error that gave
Hanna Coffel plenty of time to steal home and then again off a double up the middle by
Riley Heim to bring in Anderson.

Up 5-2, and with one out, Wittenberg's Ashlynn Stamper connected with a pitch by
Megan Asher for a two-run homer. Despite only having a one-run lead and one out, the DePauw Tigers closed the game with a groundout and a strikeout for the win.

Pyburn, Bernhard, Rheinheimer, Anderson, and Heim each had two of DePauw's 11 hits, while five different members of the Wittenberg team tallied one hit apiece.

Asher picked up the win to improve to 7-8, while Julie Hall dropped to 5-6.

In game two, in the bottom of the first, with no outs and bases loaded, Mathies hit a grand slam for a definitive four-run lead.

Wittenberg eventually reached the board with its own three-run home run by Quevedo in the top of the third to cut the DePauw Tigers lead to one.

DePauw put the game away with one in the fourth and four in the fifth for an 11-3 victory over the Wittenberg Tigers.

Mathies and
Drew Bratcher each had two of DePauw's 11 hits, while Julia Burch, Quevedo, Audrey Robinson, and Flaherty each had one of Wittenberg's four hits.

Kersten Brayton picked up the win to improve to 4-3, while Kira van Ravensberg dropped to 5-9.

DePauw returns to action tomorrow, Sunday, April 23, with a noon doubleheader against Hiram College.
