Wooster, Ohio- Â In its third North Coast Athletic Conference matchup, the DePauw women's tennis team came up short in a closely contested 5-4 loss to the College of Wooster. The Tigers drop to 4-12 and 0-3 in NCAC play, while the Fighting Scots improve to 9-4 and 1-1 in NCAC play.

Wooster took a 2-1 lead following the doubles matches. The Fighting Scots' Kim Nguyen and Abby Williams beat
Alex Preston and
Valerie Doherty 8-3 on court three. On court two, DePauw's
Ellen Gardner and
Kat Wilder tied the match at one after defeating Cherry Patlolla and Katie Materick 8-6. Wooster would regain the lead on court one after Otilia Oita and Janaki Jagannathan beat
Sonal Matta and
Kiley Shaw 8-7 (7-4).

In singles matches, the Fighting Scots started to pull away after Patlolla beat Wilder 6-4, 6-2 at number three.
Franny Werner defeated her opponent Materick 7-5, 6-1 on court six to cut Wooster's lead to 3-2.Â

Unfortunately for the Tigers, the Fighting Scots won two tiebreakers to clinch the conference victory. On court four, Nguyen beat Doherty 2-6, 6-3, 6-1, and on court one, Oita defeated Gardner 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.Â

However, DePauw won the remaining two matches of the day; on court five, Shaw beat Williams 6-3, 4-6, 6-2; and on court two, Matta defeated Jagannathan 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.

The Tigers return to Greencastle, Ind., to take on Ohio Wesleyan University on Friday, April 7. The Battling Bishops and Tigers will take to the courts at 2 p.m.
