DePauw Loses 5-4 to Wittenberg in the Battle of the Tigers

Box Score Springfield, Ohio- The DePauw women's tennis fell to the Wittenberg University Tigers 5-4 on the road. The DePauw Tigers drop to 4-13 and 0-4 in NCAC play, while the Wittenberg Tigers improve to 7-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
 
DePauw jumped to a 2-1 lead in doubles play after Alex Preston and Valerie Doherty beat Wittenberg's Claire Stechow and Kelsey Smith 8-0 on court three. Ellen Gardner and Kat Wilder defeated PJ Meyers and Claire Sullivan 8-6 on court two. The Wittenberg Tigers would cut DePauw's lead in half after Ashley Issac and Sidney Purks beat Sonal Matta and Kiley Shaw 8-6 on court one.
 
In singles play, Doherty beat Wittenberg's Sullivan 6-2, 6-2 on court four to put DePauw up 3-1. Down two matches, Wittenberg came surging back in its singles matches, with Issac beating Gardner 6-0, 6-0 on court one, followed by Meyers defeating Wilder 6-3, 6-3 on court three.

On court five, Wittenberg's Smith and Shaw battled for advantage, with Smith coming out on top, beating Shaw 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. Due to a forfeit by Wittenberg on court six, the two teams were tied at four, with just court two left to determine the winner. In a back-and-forth match between Sproule and Matta, Sproule defeated Matta 6-1, 5-7, 6-1 for the Wittenberg victory over DePauw. 
 
DePauw hosts Keyon College on Saturday, April 15. The Tigers and the Owls will take to the courts at 2 p.m.
