Tigers Drop Final Two at Illinois Wesleyan Tournament

Bloomington, Ill. - Following a 10-2 loss against Wartburg, DePauw was unable to hold leads in the seventh and eighth innings against Illinois Wesleyan and dropped a 9-8 game to the Titans at the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament. The Tigers dropped to 5-16 with the losses.

Wartburg grabbed a 4-0 lead after Sydney Illg hit a solo homer in the first and Reegan Deputy hit a three-run blast in the third.

The Tigers got on the board in the fourth as Emily Timberman led off with a single and pinch-runner Ella Ohrvall moved to second on Katie Mathies' single. Ella Kuenster then singled to right and Ohrvall came home on the throw.

The Knights added four in the fourth for an 8-1 lead. DePauw's second and final run came in the fifth as Goose Moore led off with a single, stole second and came home on Riley Heim's double.

Wartburg added single runs in the fifth and sixth to end the game due to the run rule.

Moore led the Tigers with three of their nine hits while Mathies added two. Five different Knights had one hit each.

Megan Asher dropped to 3-6 with the loss and Ashley Nelson improved to 5-6.

Against Illinois Wesleyan, the Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the second after Alyssa Anderson doubled home Mathies. After scoring an unearned run in the second, DePauw made it 3-0 in the third when Timberman drove in Abby Pyburn with a single.

The Titans gained the lead in the third as Madison Moore and Ava Khoury each hit two-run homers.

Hanna Coffel's single in the fourth scored Anderson before Anderson delivered a three-run homer in the fifth to give the Tigers a 7-4 lead.

Illinois Wesleyan countered with one in the fifth on Megan Fontnaetta's double which scored Jen Kuhn. In the seventh, the Titans loaded the bases with two outs before Priscilla Peek doubled home Isabelle Piwowarczyk and Anna Beckman, but Maya Black was thrown out at the plate sending the game to extra innings.

Peek was placed on second in the bottom half of the inning and Bailey Turner advanced her to third with a sacrifice bunt. Casey Wissmiller followed with a bunt single and Moore walked to load the bases. Kuhn and Fontanetta both walked to end the game.

I chose DePauw because it stood out compared to all of the other campuses I went to. Between the people, the campus, the softball program and the community, it just felt like home. I knew after the first time I came to campus for a softball camp that DePauw was the one.
