Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw men's Lacrosse team dropped its second game in a row after falling to the No.16 Denison University Big Red 17-3. The Tigers drop to 6-7 for the season and 1-4 in NCAC play, while the Big Red improve to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
At the start of the first period, the Tigers managed to hold off the Big Red's offense for over five minutes, giving up just four goals heading into the second period. Denison would extend its lead to 8-0 after outshooting DePauw 39-5 in the first half.
In the second half, the Big Red exploded offensively. Denison's Tommy Quinson and Luke Fisher had a hand in five of the six goals put in by the Big Red in the third period to put them up 14-0 over the Tigers. Despite facing an onslaught of goals, DePauw held Denison to 23 shots in the second half while putting up 12 of their own. In the fourth quarter, the Tigers found the back of the Big Red's net.
Henry White put in the first of DePauw's three goals at the 11-minute mark; four minutes later, White found
Eli Federman for goal number two, and the Tigers' third goal was a quick dump pass from
Jack Flynn to
Jack Kneisley.
Denison outshot DePauw, 62-17, and held a 29-14 edge in ground balls. The Big Red were 19-23 in won faceoffs, winning 11 of Denison's faceoffs was Grant Larson, and the Tigers'
Matthew Roman won four for DePauw. In goal,
Anthony Reinhardt totaled five saves in the first half, while teammate
Sebastian Schaefer tallied nine saves for DePauw. Denison's starting goalie Archer Darrach finished the night with two saves and the win, while teammate Andrew Albert finished with three, and Luke Liggett completed the night with one save.
White led the Tigers with two points after tallying a goal and an assist, and on the defensive end,
MJ Cook and
Matthew Garrigan had two caused turnovers apiece. Quinson of Denison led the Big Red with five goals and teammates Will Bennett and Ethan Tyack each scored two. Denison's Fisher recorded five assists for the evening.
DePauw looks to bounce back as they travel to Hiram, Ohio, on Saturday, April 22, to take on the Hiram College Terriers. The Tigers and the Terriers are set to play at 1 p.m.
