DePauw Tops Battling Bishops and Wins Weekend Series

Delaware, Ohio - DePauw scored four in the sixth and held on for a 6-5 non-conference win at Ohio Wesleyan. The Tigers improved to 10-15, while the Battling Bishops dropped to 14-12.

The hosts took a 1-0 lead in the second as Tyler Monaco drove in Zane Vitense with a ground out. Edrick Padilla stole home in the fourth to make it 2-0.

DePauw reached the scoreboard in the fifth as Danny Sheehan led off with a double, moved to second on Paul Jennewein's ground out and scored on a balk.

In the sixth, Eli Bell singled with one out and moved to second on Sheehan's walk. Kyle Boyer followed with a single that scored Bell. Hunter Hrbek then singled with two outs, scoring Sheehan and giving DePauw the lead. After Hrbek stole second, Aidan Howard delivered a double down the right field line to plate Boyer and Hrbek and pushed the Tigers' lead to 5-2.

Ohio Wesleyan scored an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth before Vitense scored on a wild pitch in the eighth.

Howard led off the ninth with a single and moved to second on an error on the play. After Danny Glimco walked, Cameron Macon advanced Howard to third with a fly out. Carter Knoll then followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 6-4.

The Battling Bishops started a two-out rally as Sammy Stoner walked, DJ Neff singled and Dillon Ysseldyke walked to load the bases. A wild pitch allowed Stoner to scored and, after an intentional walk to Vitense, Padilla grounded out to end the game.

Howard led the Tigers with three of their nine hits and Sheehan followed with two.

Stoner, Vitense and Padilla each had two of Ohio Wesleyan's 10 hits.

Dylan Perrot improved to 1-1, while Jake Thometz collected his first save. Joe Tepper dropped to 0-2 with the loss.

DePauw hosts 13th-ranked Denison on Wednesday, April 19, at Noon.
