Delaware, Ohio - DePauw opened its North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader at Ohio Wesleyan with a 10-5 win before falling to the Battling Bishops in the nightcap, 13-3. The Tigers moved to 9-15 overall and 3-3 in the NCAC, while Ohio Wesleyan is now 14-12 overall and 2-6 in the conference.
In the opener, Ohio Wesleyan loaded the bases in the first before Edrick Padilla drew a walk that scored Sammy Stoner.
DePauw countered in the second as
Danny Sheehan scored when
Paul Jennewein reached on a sacrifice bunt. The Tigers added an unearned run in the fourth and the Battling Bishops evened the count at 2-2 in the bottom of the frame on Alex Snyder's leadoff homer.
Carter Knoll's sacrifice fly in the fifth gave DePauw a 3-2 advantage and it stayed that way until the top of the eighth when
Danny Glimco drove in a pair with a double and
Cameron Macon brought home one with a sacrifice fly.
The Tigers added four more in the ninth on
Brennan Roach's sacrifice fly followed by
Hunter Hrbek's RBI double, Glimco's run-scoring single and Knoll's bases loaded hit by pitch.
The Battling Bishops scored three in the bottom of the ninth before the Tigers shut down the threat.
Hrbek, Glimco, Jennewein, Roach and
Aidan Howard each had two of DePauw's 11 hits.Â
Stoner and Zane Vitense each had three of Ohio Wesleyan's 12 hits with DJ Neff and Padilla finishing with two each.
Michal Vallone moved to 2-1 after striking out seven in seven innings, while Andy Anthony dropped to 2-2.
In the second game, Ohio Wesleyan broke the game open in the bottom of the first with 10 runs including six which crossed the plate after two outs were recorded. The hosts added two more in the second before DePauw reached the board in the fourth when Knoll doubled home Macon who started the inning with a single.
Glimco's solo homer in the sixth cut the Ohio Wesleyan lead to 12-2 and Hrbek's run-scoring grounder in the seventh scored
Nate Hulen. The Battling Bishops ended the game with the run rule after scoring one in the bottom of the seventh.
Six different Tigers collected one hit each. Stoner finished with three of Ohio Wesleyan's 12 hits with Dillon Ysseldyke, Padilla and Jack Bates each finishing with two.
Pearse Riendeau dropped to 2-2, while Jason Monos improved to 3-2.
The two teams square off tomorrow in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch has been moved to 9 a.m. due to the forecast of rain.
