In the opener, DePauw took a 1-0 lead on
Danny Glimco's first-inning single, but Franklin countered with three in the second and one in the third for a 4-1 lead.
The Tigers evened the score in the fourth on
Danny Sheehan's RBI double,
Paul Jennewein's sacrifice bunt and
Carter Knoll's run-scoring single. They then took an 8-4 lead in the same frame when Glimco blasted a grand slam homer.
Jonathan LaGuire's two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth and Tysen Lipscomb's RBI double brought Franklin within one run before the Grizzlies took a 9-8 advantage with a two-run fifth.
Cameron Allen's three-run homer in the top of the sixth lifted DePauw to an 11-9 lead, but LaGuire matched that in the bottom half of the sixth with a three-run shot.
The Tigers evened the count in the seventh on
Cameron Macon's fielder's choice before Franklin added three in the seventh and one in the eighth.
Glimco had three of DePauw's 14 hits and drove in five runs, while
Aidan Howard,
Eli Bell, Allen, Sheehan and Jennewein each collected two hits.
Lipscomb and LaGuire each had three of Franklin's 12 hits. LaGuire drove in six and hit three of Franklin's six homers.
Dylan Perrott dropped to 0-1, while Franklin's Sam Peck improved to 1-1.
In the nightcap, the Tigers jumped out to a 7-0 lead with two in the first and five in the second. Franklin, however, rallied with five in the fourth to tie the contest at 8-8. A five-run DePauw sixth put the Tigers in front for good.
Hunter Hrbek, Howard and Macon each had two of DePauw's eight hits with Howard driving in three. AJ Sanders and Noah Wood each had three of Franklin's 10 hits with Wood driving in four and hitting the game's only round-tripper.
Patrick Deemer improved to 1-0, while Noah Bennington dropped to 1-1.
DePauw returns to North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday, April 15, with a Noon doubleheader at Ohio Wesleyan.
