Tigers Drop Opening Game at IWU Tournament

Bloomington, Ill. - Wisconsin-Stout scored two in the opening inning and held on for a 3-2 win over DePauw in the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament. The Tigers dropped to 5-14, while the Blue Devils improved to 6-13.

Alyssa Albrecht led off the game with a homer to give UW-Stout a 1-0 lead. Payton Dolecki tripled with one out in the inning and Kayli Pfeiffer reached on a throwing error. A double steal allowed Dolecki to score.

DePauw's Emily Timberman drew a one-out walk in the fourth and pinch-runner Ella Ohrvall moved to third after Katie Mathies singled. Madi Lockridge then drove in Ohrvall with a one-out single.

Donna D'Addabbo walked with two outs in the fifth and Dolecki made it 3-1 with her second triple of the game.

Timberman's leadoff homer in the bottom of the sixth closed the gap to 3-2 and the Tigers had the potential game-tying run on third, but couldn't even the score.

Five different Tigers had one hit each, while Dolecki and Emma Muehlenbeck each had two of the Blue Devils' seven hits.

Megan Asher struck out seven in seven innings and dropped to 3-5, while Mackensie Wolterstorff improved to 3-5 and struck out eight.

DePauw faces Wartburg tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. CDT and Illinois Wesleyan at 3:45 p.m. CDT.

I chose DePauw because it stood out compared to all of the other campuses I went to. Between the people, the campus, the softball program and the community, it just felt like home. I knew after the first time I came to campus for a softball camp that DePauw was the one.
