Tigers Battle Fighting Scots in NCAC Opener

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw battled unbeaten Wooster to a 5-5 tie with 12 minutes to play, but the visiting Fighting Scots scored three times in a 6:02 stretch to take an 8-5 North Coast Athletic Conference win over the Tigers. DePauw dropped to 5-4 overall and 0-1 in the NCAC, while Wooster improved to 11-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

The Tigers reached the board first as Jack Flynn scored with 5:32 left in the first before the Fighting Scots scored twice in the final 2:07 of the first period for a 2-1 lead. Luke Budd extended the Wooster lead to 3-1 with 12:28 left in the second period before DePauw's Connor Gibson made it 3-2 with 10:12 remaining in the first half.

Wooster's Vinny DiLeo scored twice in the third to push the Fighting Scots' lead to 5-2 before Collin Kilpatrick scored with 5:27 in the third. Gibson scored just 49 seconds into the fourth and Kilpatrick evened the score with 13:27 left in the game. Wooster's Rory Zahren countered two minutes later before DiLeo added two more to seal the win.

Gibson and Kilpatrick each scored two and Henry White assisted on three to lead the Tigers. DiLeo scored four for the Fighting Scots with Lane Kellogg assisting on two. Anthony Reinhardt recorded 14 saves in goal for DePauw with Wooster's Paul Chandler stopping 11 shots.

Wooster held a 45-28 edge in shots including 22-16 on goal. Wooster led in ground balls, 38-28, while Wooster had 25 turnovers to the Tigers' 32.

Jack Kneisley won 10 of 17 faceoffs for DePauw and led the Tigers with nine ground balls, while Matthew Garrigan and Russ Nelson each caused four turnovers. DiLeo and Jimmy Fisher each scooped up four ground balls for Wooster and Casey STeffen caused four turnovers.

DePauw travels to Kenyon on Saturday, April 8, for a 1 p.m. NCAC contest.
