DePauw Splits First Two Games at Grand Slam Triangle Classic

Raliegh, N.C. - DePauw opened play in the Grand Slam Triangle Classic with a win over Susquehanna and a loss to #25 Piedmont, both by 8-5 scores. The Tigers are now 3-2 on the season.

DePauw took a 1-0 lead in the second, but Susquehanna scored three in the bottom of the second and one in the third. The Tigers took the lead with four in the fifth including a sacrifice ly by Callie Rheinheimer and a two-run single from Katie Mathies.

After the River Hawks scored one in the sixth to close the deficit to 6-5, Riley Heim blasted a two-run homer to left center in the seventh to wrap up the scoring.

Mathies, Lily Jennings and Abby Pyburn each had two of DePauw's 10 hits, while Erin Bean, Ashley Warner and Lexi Palumbo each had two of Susquehanna's seven hits. 

Kandra Butcher improved to 1-0 and Megan Asher collected her first save. Brianna Jones took the loss.

DePauw took a 2-0 lead in the first against Piedmont, but the Lions responded with one in the second and three each in the third and fifth to grab a 7-2 lead. DePauw scored one in the fifth and two in the seventh, sandwiching a solo run by the Lions in the sixth.

Ella Ohrvall and Mathies each had two of DePauw's six hits with Kennedy Votava and Lyndzi Partlow each collecting three of Piedmont's 13. 

Kersten Brayton dropped to 0-1, while Emma McBrayer took the win.

DePauw faces #19 Birmingham-Southern tomorrow at 11 a.m. and #10 Randolph-Macon at 5 p.m.
