Sewanee, Tenn.- The connection between
Abby Keane and
Graesen Campbell in DePauw's 16-15 overtime victory over Sewanee was pivotal to the Tigers' scoring from start to finish. The duo worked together to put DePauw up on the board first and found each other again in overtime for the man-up, golden goal to put the game away after the Sewanee Tigers clawed back from a seven-point deficit to tie the game at 15. DePauw women's lacrosse improved to 8-1, while Sewanee dropped to 7-7.
Keane recorded a hat trick in the first period of play, and a goal by
Bridget Driscoll put the DePauw Tigers up 4-2 heading into the second period. Recording a hat trick of her own,
Emily Napier took just two minutes at the start of the second period to balloon DePauw's lead to five. Driscoll,
Caleigh Claar, and
Bria Randolph each scored another goal to give the Tigers a comfortable 10-4 lead heading into halftime.
Despite being down by six goals, Sewanee continued to battle its way back into the game; with home-field advantage and two periods left in the regulation, the Sewanee Tigers held DePauw to just two goals in the third. In the fourth period, Sewanee outscored the DePauw Tigers 10-3 to force overtime.
Sewanee started overtime with the momentum tilted in its favor; yet, in overtime situations, the Sewanee Tigers were 0-2, while the DePauw Tigers were 1-0 in overtime. Winning the draw control and earning a man-up opportunity, Keane had a look on goal just 40 seconds into extra minutes. Sewanee's Sarah Powers saved the goal attempt and cleared it; however, a turnover by Sewanee gave the ball back to DePauw, who worked the ball around the crease, where Campbell eventually slipped a ball to Keane for the golden goal win.
Keane led the Tigers with six goals, Napier added five, and Claar and Driscoll had two. Randolph rounded out the goal-scoring with one and tied Driscoll and Campbell with three assists.
Ally Black also recorded an assist for the night.
In goal,
Lydia Hollis recorded 11 saves and improved to 8-1 for the season, while Sewanee's Powers finished with six saves and dropped to 2-4.
Sewanee held a 36-31 advantage in shots, with DePauw and the Sewanee Tigers committing 24 and 20 turnovers, respectively. DePauw held a 22-13 draw control edge, with Driscoll collecting 11, and Sewanee's Marlin Price led her team with five draw controls. Sewanee led in ground balls, 26-18, and had nine free-position shots to DePauw's six.
The Tigers continue their road matchups on Saturday, April 8, at 12 p.m., against Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio.
