South Bend, Ind.- In its highest-scoring game this season, the DePauw women's lacrosse team toppled the Belles of Saint Mary's College 21-6, extending its win streak to five. The Tigers improved to 6-1 for the season, while the Belles dropped to 3-3.
DePauw found the back of Saint Mary's net first with a free position goal by Graesen Campbell; two minutes later, the Belles' Christiana Singler tied the game at one, but the Tigers quickly regained the lead off a goal by Emily Napier. DePauw would finish the first period with nine goals and a seven-point lead.
Down 9-2 at the start of the second period, the Belles managed to put in three goals and held the Tigers to just four heading into the half. With an eight-goal lead and two periods left in regulation, DePauw's ballooned to a 15-point lead after outsourcing its opponents eight to one in the second half.
Napier paced the Tigers, who finished the night with five goals and two assists, with Abby Keane, Bridget Driscoll, and Campbell each adding four goals. Bria Randolph tacked on two more goals and was tied for most assists with Napier and Campbell with two apiece. Marley Heitman and Olivia Sanchez each put in a goal for the Tigers.
Lydia Hollis tallied eight saves for the day, while Saint Mary's Mila Swiacki dropped to 1-1 for the season and tallied one save, and teammate Emma Zmudzinski finished with six saves after 45 minutes in goal.
DePauw held a 37-18 advantage in shots, with the Belles and the Tigers committing 26 and 27 turnovers, respectively. The Tigers held a 21-10 draw control edge as Driscoll grabbed 19 of them, shattering the previous single-game draw control record (12) held by Emma Kennedy. The Belles' Molly Mullett led her team with five draw controls. DePauw led in ground balls, 29-21.
The Tigers travel to Atlanta, Ga. on Monday, March 27, to face Berry College in its first of two Spring Break contests.
